High Pressure Gas Calibration

up to 300 bar

High Pressure Gas Calibration – up to 300 (*) bar at flows up to 22000 Nl/min

(*) Consult factory for pressure higher than 50 bar

Practically all types of gas flowmeters are affected by the pressure of the gas being measured. This requires that for accurate flow measurement, proper pressure must be maintained during operation and most importantly during calibration. Any flowmeter installed in a high pressure line must also be calibrated under high pressure conditions.

To address these needs for optimal gas calibration conditions, we have expanded our gas laboratory capabilities by installing a state-of-the-art high pressure compressor and gas storage facility so that flowmeters can calibrated at pressures of up to 300 bar. This capability is unique among calibration laboratories and has been tested extensively as part of our H2 activities and the resulting custody transfer accreditation. And we also continue offering high pressure REAL gas calibrations within the limitations listed here.

Coriolis Mass Flowmeters for Gas

The output signal of Coriolis flowmeters comes from the Coriolis effect induced out-of-phase deflection of oscillating measuring loops. However, for this out-of-phase condition to be measured accurately and consistently, a minimum density level must be maintained inside the measuring tubes. Below this density threshold which varies for different types of Coriolis flowmeters, the flow signal is weak and unstable, resulting in poor accuracy and limited flow range. TrigasFI now has the ability to perform calibrations under stable high pressure conditions, ensuring optimal repeatability and rangeability for Coriolis flowmeters.

Turbine Flowmeters for Gas

Varying pressure and the resulting changes in gas density and most importantly viscosity, have a very significant effect on the performance of turbine flowmeters. Being able to maintain the proper pressure (and back pressure) during calibration, ensures that turbine flowmeters will perform accurately in the field.

Ultrasonic Flowmeters for Gas

Gas density and viscosity, because of the effect they have on Reynolds Number and gas velocity profile, also have a considerable influence on the performance of ultrasonic measurement and their accuracy in the field.

The list of other types of flowmeters that benefit from calibration under actual pressure conditions extends to most types of gas measuring instruments, including:

  • Vortex and swirl flowmeters
  • Differential pressure flowmeters (Orifice, Venturi etc.)
  • Laminar flow elements
  • Roots, piston and rotary gas meters
  • and many others

All calibrations at TrigasFI are traceable to national and international standards in accordance to our ISO 17025 accreditation. Actual DAkkS ISO 17025 calibration accreditation are available as well. For applications where custody transfer needs must be met, we perform calibrations together with the responsible calibration authorities or the conformity assessment body.
